Join Unexpected Atlanta, the city’s #1-rated tour company with over 2,400 glowing reviews and a decade of delicious storytelling for a one-hour journey where tasting and creating come together.To understand the magic of spices, you’ll head into our Spice Lab for a hands-on session that’s part experiment, part creativity.You’ll play with spices in a whole new way, exploring things like why cinnamon doesn’t mix with water, how alliums deepen and transform over time, and what actually happens when flavors bloom, toast, or rest during different guide-led spice experiments.Then it’s your turn.Using what you’ve learned, you’ll create two of your own custom spice blends to take home.It’s relaxed, a little nerdy in the best way, and a lot of fun.
Conveniently located in downtown Atlanta near Centennial Olympic Park, it’s easy to fit this experience in before or after your visit to the main tourist sites.

What exactly is a spice lab?
Our food experiences in Atlanta combine history, delicious food, and beautiful art! It mashes together hands-on activities with unique storytelling.
This spice blending class is a completely unique experience!
Do you offer vegetarian options?
Yes, absolutely, we can accommodate vegetarian guests for all of our experiences with advance notice. The Atlanta Spice Lab Experience is already vegetarian friendly!
Do you offer gluten-free options?
Yes! The Atlanta Spice Lab Experience is already gluten free!
But please note, we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination in our kitchen where we use flour. Our tour guides do not carry EPI-Pens.
Does this Atlanta food experience include an urban food hall?
No, the Atlanta Spice Lab Experience takes place completely indoors at our Unexpected Atlanta Headquarters at 121 Luckie St NW, Atlanta GA 30303.
Can I change the food options during the Atlanta food tours?
No, all food is pre-ordered so you may not change options during the tour.
I have a severe food allergy.
Please let us know about severe food allergies. Our guides also carry Benadryl but do not carry epi-pens.
Can my children participate in this tour?
Yes! Children love this fun experience because it’s hands-on and they get to be creative. We generally recommend that children be at least 5 years old in order to fully participate in the Atlanta spice blending class.
Is there a class minimum?
Yes, Unexpected Atlanta reserves the right to cancel tours at any time if the 2 person minimum has not been met. In this event Unexpected Atlanta will reach out to guests to resolve issues with any affected reservations. We welcome walk ins!
What type of history is included on the food tours of Atlanta?
The Atlanta Spice Lab Experience covers the history of spices and spice migration.
Is the spice blending class messy?
Not at all! If you are concerned, we have aprons available for guests.
I am interested in the Civil Rights Movement. Is that on this tour?
We mention the Civil Rights Movement in relation to the Market and the neighborhood briefly. But, if you want to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. or the Civil Rights Movement, we recommend our Martin Luther King Jr. History Tour.
How close is the Atlanta food tour to other attractions?
Our downtown Atlanta Headquarters is very close to many downtown attractions and is along the Atlanta Streetcar Route.
We’re just a block away from Centennial Olympic Park, a 10 minute walk from the Aquarium or World of Coca-Cola Museum.
The Luckie at Cone streetcar stop is right across the street from our headquarters!

There’s no walking on this indoor only class!
